It was here that we met Christian who is working on a PhD in Roman history. (Augsburg was founded by and is named for Augustus Ceaser) He pointed out some the replica roman pieces on the grounds of the Cathedral, and the protected ugly brick wall which the city is preserving as "classic 70's style architechture". Christian showed us how the church was built in two stages, with a large gap in time between the Roman stage (the red brick section) and the later gothic construction. Inside you can see the original roman constuction in the levels below the current floor. Also the Augsburg cathedral boasts the oldest Stained Glass in Germany.
